Secret Supper: A multi-dining experience for Parkinson’s UK

Secret Supper may be over, but our buzz is not! On Tuesday 9th April, we (together with The Jam House, Cucina Rustica, Anderson’s Bar & Grill, St Pauls House and Locanta) hosted Birmingham’s first ever Secret Supper with Parkinson’s UK to raise funds and awareness for the charity.

The Concept

The idea was for guests to enjoy a multi-dining experience by tucking into a three-course meal, at three separate restaurants. And this is exactly what happened! All 165 in attendance, didn’t find out where they would be dining for each course until the night of the event. Where they were given their top secret envelope upon arrival to the welcome drinks, held at The Jam House.

Guests were grouped into teams that they would be spending the evening with at they travelled around St Paul’s Square. Some knew one another, whilst some formed new friendships on the night! Encouraged to sit next to somebody new for each course of the meal, the evening was also a great networking event that saw local residents and businesses come together.

What Parkinson’s UK do

Parkinson’s UK are a charity that are dedicated to making the lives of those living with Parkinson’s easier. Their support network helps hundreds of families to cope with the everyday obstacles that come with having the condition. Their extensive medical research also is vital in helping to improve symptoms and hopefully one day find a cure.

Parkinson’s is a progressive neurological condition for which there is currently no cure. It affects 145,000 people in the UK, with an estimated 12,300 people living with Parkinson’s in the West Midlands. To raise awareness is vital if the quality of life is to continue being improved for those with Parkinson’s. The Secret Supper event not only raised awareness, but also an amazing £6,775 for the charity, which will fund it’s ongoing care and research.

Our Secret Supper Menu

We loved being part of such an exciting event! On the night we served some of our menu favourites, all of which you can see listed below.

ANTIPASTI

Minestrone V
Homemade vegetable soup served with bread.

Gamberetti Marinara
V / VG*
Prawns in tomato sauce, garlic parsley and a little chilli.

(*Swap the prawns for your favourite vegetable and this dish is vegan)

Arborella Fritti

Deep fried breaded whitebait served with a mixed leaf salad and caper berry mayonnaise.

Caprino Alla Griglia
V
Grilled goats cheese nestled on a bed of ciabatta with slices of beef tomato, a mixed leaf salad and drizzled with a balsamic reduction.

Mushroom Italiano / VG*
Oven baked mushroom in our tomato sauce with garlic and herbs, topped with mozzarella cheese.
(*Can be made vegan if cooked without mozzarella)

SECONDI PIATTI

Salmon Al Prosciutto
Fillet of salmon wrapped in parma ham, topped with a tomato and garlic sauce served with wholesome vegetables and sautéed potatoes.

Pollo Alla Crema

Succulent pieces of chicken pan fried with mushrooms and spinach, simmered in a creamy white wine sauce.

Penne al Forno
/ VG*
Layers of aubergine on a bed of penne pasta in tomato sauce, topped with melted mozzarella cheese.

(*Can be made vegan if cooked without mozzarella)

Ravioli Alfredo

Fresh filled ravioli parcels in a classic creamy alfredo sauce with spinach.

Pollo Boscaiola

Tender grilled chicken breast covered in our tomato sauce with mushrooms, mix peppers and onions, served with mix vegetables and sautéed potatoes.

Risotto Di Asparagi V / VG*
Italian rice cooked with goats’ cheese, asparagus, peas and sundried tomatoes.
(*Can be made vegan if cooked without cheese)

Fettucine Primevera V / VG*
Fresh mixed vegetables simmered in a creamy sweet tomato sauce served with long flat ribbon pasta.
(Can be made vegan if cooked without cream sauce and by swapping for an alternative pasta)

DOLCI

Tiramisu Casalingo V
Traditional dessert soaked in espresso, sambuca & amaretto liqueur.

Sorbetto Al Limone V / VG

Traditional lemon sorbet.

Semi Fredo Al Torroncino V

Nougat Ice Cream served with amaretti biscuit, topped with hazelnut praline.
