Doing Veganuary this year and wondering how you’d do it at Pasta Di Piazza? It’s not as tough or impossible as you might think!
What is Veganuary?
Launched in the UK in January 2014, Veganuary (pronounced vee-GAN-uary) is a charity that encourages people to try vegan for a whole month in January. As well as being kinder way to consume, veganism is also one of the most effective choices a person can make to reduce their impact on the planet and can also improve personal health. Whatever your reason for taking part in Veganuary this year, here’s our little guide on how to do Veganuary at Pasta Di Piazza!
Finding vegan options on an Italian menu might seem daunting. Though we love our veggies, we also do love cheese. But it’s not impossible and is actually rather delicious! Take a look at some of our vegan options…
Here’s some of the dishes that are vegan or can be made vegan with simple changes on our Antipasti menu:
Homemade vegetable soup served with bread.
Warm tomato stuffed with grilled marinated vegetable, caramelised onion and pine nuts topped with melted mozzarella. Can be made vegan if served without mozzarella.
Though it’s made with prawns in tomato sauce, garlic parsley and little chilli, you can swap out the prawns for your favourite vegetable (that’s available in our kitchen) and this dish is vegan!
Oven baked mushroom in our tomato sauce with garlic and herbs, topped with mozzarella cheese. Can be made vegan if served without mozzarella.
Baked, fresh mushroom cups filled with butter, garlic, white wine and parmesan, served with mayonnaise. Can be made vegan if served without butter, cheese and mayonnaise.
GNOCCHI DI PATATE
Pan fried potato dumplings with fresh black pepper, walnuts and fresh pecorino shavings. Can be made vegan if served without pecorino cheese. Please confirm with your server to see if we have eggless gnocchi at the time of your visit.
Pizza and Pasta
We have three vegetarian pizzas; Capri, Margherita and Calzone Vegetariana, which can all be made vegan if you ask for no cheese. If there’s a meaty pizza you like the sound of, just ask to swap out the meat and cheese for some vegetables of your choice and we’ll be happy to do so!
PENNE ARRABBIATA E FUNGHI
Penne pasta with tomato sauce, mushroom onion and fresh chilli.
You can also add other vegetables to this dish, or make up your own tomato-based pasta dish. Just let us know when ordering.
RISOTTO DI ASPARAGI
Italian rice cooked with goats’ cheese, asparagus, peas and sundried tomatoes. This dish can be made vegan by cooking without the goats’ cheese.
Avocado, sun blushed tomatoes, olives and red onion on a bed of greens topped with melted goats cheese and balsamic dressing. This dish can be made vegan by serving without cheese.
SUN DRIED TOMATO SALAD
Sundried tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, red onion, rocket and olives on a bed of beef tomatoes with a basil pesto dressing. This dish can be made vegan by serving without cheese and replacing the pesto dressing for a balsamic vinegar dressing.
SORBETTO AL LIMONE
Traditional lemon sorbet.
